The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Take it from me, take it from me. Allah has now appointed a way for them. The unmarried with the unmarried, one hundred lashes and banishment for a year. The married with the married, one hundred lashes and stoning."In another narration, whenever revelation came down upon the Prophet ﷺ, he would be overcome with distress and his face would grow dark. One day revelation came upon him and he was affected in this way. When it had passed, he said, "Take it from me, for Allah has now appointed a way for them. The married with the married and the unmarried with the unmarried. The married, one hundred lashes and then stoning with stones. The unmarried, one hundred lashes and then banishment for a year."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: خذوا عني، خذوا عني، قد جعل الله لهن سبيلا، البكر بالبكر جلد مائة ونفي سنة، والثيب بالثيب جلد مائة والرجم. وفي رواية: كان النبي ﷺ إذا أنزل عليه كرب لذلك، وتربد له وجهه، قال: فأنزل الله عليه ذات يوم، فلقي كذلك، فلما سري عنه قال: خذوا عني، فقد جعل الله لهن سبيلا، الثيب بالثيب والبكر بالبكر، الثيب جلد مائة ثم رجم بالحجارة، والبكر جلد مائة ثم نفي سنة.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Legal Punishments (1690:12), from Yahya bin Yahya Tamimi, who said, Hushaym informed us, from Mansur, from Hasan, from Hattan bin Abdullah Raqashi, from Ubada bin Samit, and he mentioned it.The second narration is also found in Muslim, through another route, from Qatada, from Hasan, with his chain of transmission.There is a well known disagreement among the scholars regarding combining flogging with stoning for the married person who commits adultery. The majority held that the married adulterer is only to be stoned, without flogging, because the Prophet ﷺ stoned Maiz, the woman from Ghamid, and the two Jews, without flogging them beforehand. So flogging became abrogated in their case.
