The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once stood among us and delivered a long address. He left out nothing that would occur from that moment until the Day of Resurrection without speaking of it. Those who remembered it remembered it, and those who forgot it forgot it. These companions of mine know it well. Sometimes a matter from it slips my mind, but when I see it happen I recall it, just as a man recalls another man's face after being away from him and recognizes him when he sees him again.
قام فينا رسول الله ﷺ مقاما. ما ترك شيئا يكون في مقامه ذلك إلى قيام الساعة، إلا حدث به حفظه من حفظه ونسيه من نسيه. قد علمه أصحابي هؤلاء، وإنه ليكون منه الشيء قد نسيته فأراه فأذكره، كما يذكر الرجل وجه الرجل إذا غاب عنه، ثم إذا راه عرفه.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Divine Decree (6604), and Muslim in the Book of Tribulations (2891:23), both by way of Amash, from Abu Waail (Shaqiq bin Salama), from Huzaifa, as mentioned. This is the wording of Muslim, and the wording of Bukhari is similar. In one of Muslim's wordings, "the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me everything that would happen until the Hour is established. There is nothing of it that I did not ask him about, except that I did not ask him what would drive the people of Madinah out of Madinah."Bazzar narrated it (Kashf Astar, 148) through another route from Huzaifa, who said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ presented his nation to me, so I stood behind him. When he finished, he turned to me and said, 'You were here, did you hear?' I said, 'Yes.'" Huzaifa used to say, "Is there anyone who has memorized this?" He said, "He then stood among us and told us everything that would happen until the Day of Judgment," or he said, "he told us everything between us and the Hour, and whoever memorized it, memorized it, and whoever forgot it, forgot it."
