Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Israil was afflicted with sciatica, and he would cry out through the night from the pain. So he vowed to Allah that if Allah cured him, he would not eat the sinews of meat. Then Allah, the Exalted, revealed, "All food was lawful to the Children of Israil except what Israil had made unlawful upon himself" [Aal Imran 3:93].
