Ayesha reported,
Aisha reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited, "It is He who has sent down to you the Book. In it are verses clear and decisive, they are the foundation of the Book, and others are open to interpretation. As for those in whose hearts there is deviation, they pursue what is open to interpretation in it, seeking discord and seeking to twist its meaning. Yet none knows its true meaning except Allah. And those firmly grounded in knowledge say, 'We believe in it. All of it is from our Lord.' But none take heed except people of understanding" [Al Imran 3:7].She said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "When you see those who pursue what is open to interpretation in it, they are the ones Allah has named, so beware of them."

تلا رسول الله ﷺ: {هو الذي أنزل عليك الكتب منه ءايت محكمت هن أم الكتاب وأخر متشبهت فأما الذين في قلوبهم زيغ فيتبعون ما تشبه منه ابتغاء الفتنة وابتغاء تأويله وما يعلم تأويله إلا الله والراسخون في العلم يقولون وامنا به كل من عند ربنا وما يذكر إلا أولوا الألبب} قالت: قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا رأيتم الذين يتبعون ما تشابه منه، فأولئك الذين سمى الله، فاحذروهم.
Bukhari narrated it in tafsir (4547) and Muslim in knowledge (2665), both of them from Abdullah bin Maslama bin Qanab, who said, Yazid bin Ibrahim Tustari narrated to us, from Abdullah bin Abu Mulayka, from Qasim bin Muhammad, from Ayesha, who said... and she mentioned it, and their two wordings are identical.Ibn Majah (47) and Ahmad (24210) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (76), all of them from the hadith of Ayub Sakhtiyani, from Abdullah bin Abu Mulayka, from Ayesha, who mentioned it similarly.Abdullah bin Abu Mulayka's hearing directly from Ayesha is established.Tirmidhi (2994) said, after narrating it from the hadith of Yazid bin Ibrahim, "This is a hasan sahih hadith. This hadith has also been narrated from Ayub, from Ibn Abu Mulayka, from Ayesha, and likewise several others narrated this hadith from Ibn Abu Mulayka, from Ayesha, without mentioning in it 'from Qasim bin Muhammad'. Only Yazid bin Ibrahim mentioned Qasim in this hadith. Ibn Abu Mulayka is Abdullah bin Ubaydullah bin Abu Mulayka, and he also heard directly from Ayesha." End of quote.As for what has been narrated from Abu Umama, narrating from the Prophet ﷺ regarding His 
saying, "As for those in whose hearts is deviation, they follow that which is ambiguous therein" [Al Imran 3:7], that he said, "They are the Kharijites," and regarding His saying, "On the Day when some faces will turn white and some faces will turn black" [Al Imran 3:106], that he said, "They are the Kharijites," this is rejected.Ahmad narrated it (22259) from Abu Kamil, who said, Hammad narrated to us, from Abu Ghalib, who said, "I heard Abu Umama narrating from the Prophet ﷺ," and he mentioned it.Abu Ghalib is a Basran who settled in Isfahan. There is disagreement about him, but his hadith is hasan so long as nothing rejected appears in his narration. Here, however, he brought something rejected, namely his statement "They are the Kharijites," raising it to the level of the Prophet ﷺ, when the Kharijites did not exist during the time of the Prophet ﷺ. It has also been narrated as mawquf.
