I said to Uthman, "This verse in Surah al-Baqarah, 'Those of you who die and leave behind wives' up to His words 'without being driven out' [Baqarah 2:240], has been abrogated by another verse, so why did you record it?"He replied, "Leave it, my nephew. I will not change anything from its place."
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4536) from Abdullah bin Abu Aswad, "Humayd bin Aswad and Yazid bin Zuray told us, they said, Habib bin Shaheed told us, from Ibn Abu Mulayka, who said, Ibn Zubayr said," and he mentioned it. Something similar was narrated from Mujahid, Hasan, Ikrima, Qatada, Dahhak, Rabi bin Anas, and Muqatil bin Hayan, and they said, "It was abrogated by "four months and ten [days]" [Baqarah 2:234]." Ibn Abu Hatim mentioned this in his tafsir (2/452). For more, see the Book of Marriage.
