The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When Allah intends good for someone, He afflicts him with hardship."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: من يرد الله خيرا يصب منه.
Malik narrated it in the Book of the Evil Eye (1752), from Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abu Sasaa, who said, "I heard Abu Hubab Saeed bin Yasar say, 'I heard Abu Hurairah say,'" and he mentioned it. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Illness (5645) via Malik, with the same chain.As for his words, "yusabbu minhu," Abu Ubayd Harawi said its meaning is that He tests him with calamities in order to reward him for them. Others said its meaning is that He directs affliction toward him, and it befalls him.
