Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

A group of Jews came to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ one day and said, "Now tell us which angel is your patron, for based on that we will either join you or part from you."He replied, "My patron is Jibreel , and Allah has never sent a prophet except that Jibreel was his patron."They said, "Then we part from you. Had your patron been any other angel, we would have followed you and believed you."He asked, "What prevents you from believing him?"They answered, "He is our enemy."At that, Allah revealed, "Say, whoever is an enemy to Jibreel, it is he who has brought it down upon your heart by Allah's permission" up to His saying , "They cast the Book of Allah behind their backs as though they did not know" [Baqarah 2:97–101]. And then, "so they drew upon themselves wrath upon wrath".

عن عبد الله بن عباس قال

حضرت عصابة من اليهود النبي الله ﷺ يوما فقالوا:… وأنت الآن فحدثنا من وليك من الملائكة فعندها نجامعك أو نفارقك؟ قال: فإن وليي جبريل عليه السلام ولم يبعث الله نبيا قط إلا وهو وليه قالوا: فعندها نفارقك، لو كان وليك سواه من الملائكة لتابعناك وصدقناك، قال: فما يمنعكم من أن تصدقوه؟ قالوا: إنه عدونا، قال: فعند ذلك قال الله عز وجل: {قل من كان عدو الجبريل فإنه نزله على قلبك بإذن الله} إلى قوله عز وجل: {كتب الله وراء ظهورهم كأنهم لا يعلمون} فعند ذلك {فباءو بغضب على غضب}
