Someone who heard the Prophet ﷺ informed him that while the Prophet ﷺ was in Wadi al-Qura mounted on his horse, a man from Balqayn asked him, "Messenger of Allah, who are these people?"He replied, "These are the ones who have incurred wrath," pointing to the Jews.The man asked, "And who are these?"He answered, "These are the ones who have gone astray," meaning the Christians.
أنه أخبره من سمع النبي ﷺ وهو بوادي القرى، وهو على فرسه، وسأله رجل من بلقين، فقال: يا رسول الله، من هؤلاء؟ قال: إذاهؤلاء المغضوب عليهم وأشار إلى اليهود، قال: فمن هؤلاء؟ قال: هؤلاء الضالون يعني النصارى.
Ahmad (20351) and Ibn Jareer in his tafsir (1/187) both narrated it from the hadith of Budayl Aqeeli, who said, "Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrated to us," and then he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Munziri graded it sahih in Targheeb wa Tarheeb (2117), and Haythami said in Majma al-Zawaid (5/338), "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih." The fact that the Companion is unnamed does not harm the hadith, and most likely he is Abu Dharr, as is mentioned in the tafsir of Ibn Mardawayh, through the route of Ibrahim bin Tahman, from Budayl, which Ibn Kathir mentioned in his tafsir.
