Usayd bin Hudayr had a beautiful voice when reciting the Quran. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "While I was reciting on the roof of my house, with my wife in the room and my horse tethered by its door, something like a cloud descended upon me. I feared that it might startle the horse and cause it to tear at my wife, making her fall, so I stopped reciting."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Recite, Usayd. That was an angel who came to listen to the Quran."
Bazzar reported it in his Musnad (3209), and Firyabi in Fadail al-Quran (96), both through routes from Zuhri, from Abdul-Rahman bin Kaab bin Malik, from his father, and he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.
