Abu Qays reported,

Amr bin As heard a man reciting a verse from the Quran and asked him, "Who taught you to recite it that way?"The man replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Amr said, "But the Messenger of Allah taught me to recite it differently!"So they went together to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and one of them said, "Messenger of Allah, such-and-such a verse," and then recited it.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is how it was revealed."Then the other said, "Messenger of Allah," and recited it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in his way, saying, "Is it not like this, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "This is how it was revealed."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This Quran was revealed in seven modes, so whichever of them you recite, you have recited correctly. Do not dispute over it, for disputing over it is disbelief," or he said, "a verse of disbelief."

Sahih
