Two men disagreed about a verse of the Quran. One said, "I received it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The other said, "I received it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So they asked the Prophet ﷺ about it, and he said, "The Quran is recited in seven modes, so do not dispute about the Quran, for disputing about the Quran is disbelief."
أن رجلين اختلفا في آية من القرآن، فقال هذا: تلقيتها من رسول الله ﷺ، وقال الآخر: تلقيتها من رسول الله ﷺ، فسألا النبي ﷺ فقال: القرآن يقرأ على سبعة أحرف، فلا تماروا في القرآن، فإن مراء في القرآن كفر.
Ahmad (17542), Abu Ubayd in Fadail al-Quran (337), Tabari in his Tafsir, and Bukhari in Tarikh al-Kabir (7/262) all narrated it through Sulayman bin Bilal, who said, Yazid bin Khusayfa narrated to me, who said, Busr bin Saeed told me, who said, Abu Juhaym narrated to me, and then he related it. Its chain of transmission is sahih. Abu Salama Khuzai is Mansur bin Salama, and Abu Juhaym was from the Ansar, from Banu Najjar. It has been said that his name was Abdullah, and it has also been said that it was Harith bin Simma.
