The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The example of the one who learns knowledge and does not speak of it is like the one who hoards gold and does not spend from it."
أن رسول الله ﷺ قال: مثل الذي يتعلم العلم ولا يتحدث به كمثل الذي يكنز الذهب ولا ينفق منه.
Ibn Abdul-Barr narrated it in Jami Bayan Ilm (774) by way of Ibn Wahb, who said, "Ibn Lahia informed me, from Darraj Abu Samh, from Ibn Hujayra, from Abu Hurairah," and he related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan, because of Ibn Lahia, for his hadith is hasan when one of the Abadila narrates from him, and Ibn Wahb is one of them. Abu Samh Darraj is truthful, though his hadith specifically as narrated from Abu Haytham has been judged daif, and here he is narrating from Abdul-Rahman bin Hujayra.Tabarani also narrated it in Al-Awsat (693) through the hadith of Ibn Wahb, from Ibn Lahia, from Darraj Abu Samh, from Abu Haytham and Abdul-Rahman bin Hujayra, from Abu Hurairah, with the same wording.
