My father said to me, "Have you written down anything from me?"I replied, "Yes."He said, "Bring it to me." So I brought it to him, and he erased it. Then he said, "Memorize as we memorized from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
قال لي أبي: أتسمع مني؟ قلت: بلى، قال: فأتني به، فأتيته به، فمحاه ثم قال: احفظ كما حفظنا عن رسول الله ﷺ.

Bazzar narrated it (195, Kashf Astar) from Nasr bin Ali, my father informed us, Shaddad bin Saeed narrated to us, from Ghaylan bin Jareer, from Abu Burda, who said, (he then mentioned the hadith). Haythami said in "Majma," "Its narrators are the narrators of Sahih." I say, this is so, except that it contains a defect that Bazzar pointed out, saying, "We do not know of anyone who narrated it this way except Shaddad, and Khalid bin Salama narrated it as mawquf." I say, Shaddad bin Saeed Abu Talha Rasibi is among the narrators of Muslim, and Imam Ahmad, Nasai, and others deemed him trustworthy, so his addition is accepted, even though Khalid bin Salama is also among the narrators of Muslim, and Ahmad and others deemed him trustworthy as well.As for what has been narrated from Zayd bin Thabit, that he came in to see Muawiya, who asked him about a hadith and ordered someone to write it down, Zayd said to him, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us not to write down anything of his hadith," so it was erased. This is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it (3647) from Nasr bin Ali, Abu Ahmad informed us, Kathir bin Zayd narrated to us, from Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab, who said, Zayd bin Thabit came in to see Muawiya, and he mentioned it.Kathir bin Zayd has been the subject of some criticism, though his hadith does not fall below the level of hasan, but there is a disconnection between Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab and Zayd, for Abu Hatim said, "Muttalib's narration from Zayd bin Thabit is mursal," and Ibn Hajar described him as one who frequently narrated mursal reports and practiced tadlis.
