Reported by Abu Dawud (3870), Tirmidhi (2045), Ibn Majah (3459), and Ahmad (9756), and Hakim graded it sahih (4/410), all of them through routes from Yunus bin Abu Ishaq, from Mujahid, from Abu Hurairah, who related it.Its chain is hasan on account of Yunus bin Abu Ishaq, for he is hasan al-hadith. Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith meeting the criteria of the two Shaykhs."A note of caution, in the printed edition of Mustadrak it appears as, "from Yunus, from Abu Ishaq," which is an error. See Ithaf Mahra (19750).As for his saying "the vile remedy," it occurs in Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and Ahmad, meaning poison. A severe warning has come regarding drinking poison, as in the hadith that follows.
