My ears heard and my eyes saw when the Prophet ﷺ spoke, saying, "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his neighbor. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor his guest with his due."Someone asked, "What is his due, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "A day and a night. Hospitality extends for three days, and whatever is beyond that is charity given to him. Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent."
سمعت أذناي، وأبصرت عيناي حين تكلم النبي ﷺ فقال: من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليكرم جاره، ومن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليكرم ضيفه جائزته قال: وما جائزته يا رسول الله؟ قال: يوم وليلة، والضيافة ثلاثة أيام، فما كان وراء ذلك فهو صدقة عليه، ومن كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليقل خيرا أو ليصمت.
Bukhari narrated it in Adab (6019), from Abdullah bin Yusuf, who said, Layth told us, who said, Saeed Maqburi told me, from Abu Shurayh Adawi, and he related it. Muslim also narrated it in Iman (48) through another route from Abu Shurayh Khuzai, but he did not mention in it "his reward" or its explanation.
