I witnessed the battle of Khaybar with my masters. They spoke to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about me, telling him that I was a slave. He ordered that I be given a sword to wear, but I found myself dragging it along the ground. So he ordered that I be given a small portion of the household goods from the spoils.I presented to him an incantation I used to recite over the insane, and he ordered me to discard part of it and keep part of it.In another narration, I presented to him an incantation I used to recite over the insane during the days of ignorance. He said, "Discard such and such from it, and recite the rest."Muhammad bin Zayd said, "I lived to see him reciting it over the insane."
شهدت خيبر مع سادتي فكلموا في رسول الله ﷺ، وكلموه أني مملوك، قال: فأمرني، فقلدت السيف، فإذا أنا أجره، فأمر لي بشيء من خرثي المتاع، وعرضت عليه رقية كنت أرقي بها المجانين، فأمرني بطرح بعضها، وحبس بعضها. وفي رواية: وعرضت عليه رقية كنت أرقي بها المجانين في الجاهلية قال: اطرح منها كذا وكذا وارق بما بقي. قال محمد بن زيد: وأدركته وهو يرقي بها المجانين.
Narrated by Tirmidhi (1557), Nasai in Kubra (7493), and Hakim (1/327), all of them via Qutayba, who said, Bishr bin Mufaddal narrated to us, from Muhammad bin Zayd (he is Ibn Muhajir bin Qunfudh), from Umayr, the freed slave of Abu Lahm, who mentioned it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith." Ahmad also narrated it (21941) through another route from Muhammad bin Zayd, similarly, and the second wording is his.
