I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "By Allah, I seek Allah's forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times each day."In another wording, "I seek Allah's forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance a hundred times each day."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: والله إني لأستغفر الله وأتوب إليه في اليوم أكثر من سبعين مرة وفي لفظ: إني لأستغفر الله وأتوب إليه في اليوم مائة مرة
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Supplications (6307) from Abu Yaman, who said, Shuayb informed us, from Zuhri, who said, Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman informed me, who said, Abu Hurairah said, and he related it with the first wording. Ibn Majah (3815) and Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (4304) both narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin Amr, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, and he related it with the second wording. Nasai also narrated it in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (438) through the route of Mamar, from Zuhri, from Abu Salama, from him, with the wording, "I seek Allah's forgiveness a hundred times a day."There is no contradiction between the seventy and the hundred, for the number itself is not what is intended, rather what is intended is frequent repentance and seeking of forgiveness, whether the number is seventy or a hundred.
