Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Knowledge (68), and Muslim in the Book of the Characteristics of the Hypocrites (2821), through various routes from Amash, from Abu Waail, from Ibn Masud, and he mentioned it.In a version narrated by both of them, through the route of Mansur, from Abu Waail, who said, "Abdullah used to remind the people every Thursday. A man said to him, 'O Abu Abdul-Rahman, I wish you would remind us every day.' He said, 'What keeps me from that is that I dislike wearing you out. I give you reminders at intervals, just as the Prophet ﷺ used to give us reminders at intervals, fearing that weariness would overtake us.'"His saying "yatakhawwaluna" (with the letter kha) means that he would attend to us at varying times.It has been reported from Umar bin Khattab, the Commander of the Faithful, with a sahih chain, that he said, "O people, do not make Allah hateful to His servants."He said, someone asked, "How is that, may Allah keep you righteous?" He said, "One of you sits as a preacher and drags it out for the people until he makes them hate what they are engaged in, and one of you stands as a prayer leader and drags it out for the people until he makes them hate what they are engaged in."Bayhaqi narrated it in Madkhal (601) through the route of Ubaydullah bin Adi bin Khiyar, who said, "I heard Umar bin Khattab saying on the pulpit," and he mentioned it.And from Ubayd bin Umayr, that he came in to see Ayesha, and she said, "Who is this?" They said, "Ubayd bin Umayr." She said, "Umayr bin Qatada?" They said, "Yes." She said, "Is it true that you sit and people gather around you?" He said, "Yes indeed, O Mother of the Believers!" She said, "Beware of wearing people out and making them despair."Bayhaqi narrated it in Madkhal (602), and Khatib in Jami Akhlaq Rawi (2/188), and Baghawi mentioned it in Sharh al-Sunnah (1/314) and said, "It has also been narrated from her that she said to him, 'Tell your stories one day, and leave it another day, and do not wear the people out.'"
