Muawiya Qushayri reported,

I heard the Prophet of Allah ﷺ say, "There was once a servant among the servants of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, to whom Allah had given wealth and children. He did not perform any deeds of devotion to Allah تبارك وتعالى. He continued in this state until much of his life had passed, or only a little of it remained. Then he reflected and realized that he had not stored up any good with Allah تبارك وتعالى. So he called his sons and said, 'What kind of father have I been to you?'They replied, 'The best of fathers, dear father.'He said, 'By Allah, I will not leave any of my wealth in your possession unless I take it back from you, or you do with me what I command.' So he took a solemn pledge from them, by my Lord. Then he said, 'When I die, throw me into the fire until I become charcoal, then crush me'."The Prophet ﷺ said this while striking his thigh with his hand, as if I can still see him doing so."'Then scatter me to the wind, perhaps I may escape Allah!' By the Lord of Muhammad, they did exactly that to him when he died. He was then brought back in the finest form he had ever been in and was presented before his Lord. Allah asked him, 'What drove you to do this to yourself with the fire?'He replied, 'Fear of You, my Lord.'Allah said, 'Indeed, I find you to be one who stood in awe of Me,' and He forgave him."
