The Prophet ﷺ said, "Satan has despaired of being worshipped through idols in the land of the Arabs, but he will be content with less than that from you, with trivial sins, and these are the destructive matters on the Day of Resurrection. Avoid wrongdoing as much as you can, for a servant will come on the Day of Resurrection with good deeds, thinking they will save him. But a servant will keep coming forward saying, 'My Lord, your servant wronged me in such-and-such a way,' and Allah will say, 'Wipe out some of his good deeds.' This will continue until no good deed remains for him because of his sins. The likeness of this is a group of travelers who stop in a barren stretch of land with no firewood. The people scatter to gather wood, and before long they have collected it, built a great fire, and cooked whatever they wished. Such are sins."
Abu Yaala (5122) narrated it from Muhammad bin Abu Bakr, who said, Muhammad bin Dinar narrated to us, from Ibrahim Hijri, from Abu Ahwas, from Abdullah bin Masud, and he mentioned it. Ibrahim Hijri, who is Ibn Muslim, is daif by the agreement of the scholars, but Ibn Adi said, "Despite his weakness, his hadith is written down, and in my view he is among those whose hadith cannot be used as proof," meaning when he narrates alone.Imam Ahmad (3818) narrated it through another route, from Qatada, from Abd Rabbih, from Abu Ahwas, from Abdullah bin Masud, without doubt, in similar wording. Abd Rabbih is Ibn Abu Yazid, from whom no one narrated except Qatada, and Ibn Madini said he is unknown.Furthermore, this Ibrahim Hijri had this hadith narrated from him by Sufyan bin Uyayna. Humaydi narrated it in his Musnad (98) from him in similar wording, and Sufyan bin Uyayna said, "I came to Ibrahim Hijri, and he handed me most of his books, so I had mercy on the old man and corrected his book for him. I said, this is from Abdullah, this is from the Prophet ﷺ, and this is from Umar." End of quote.Ibn Hajar said, "This account from Ibn Uyayna indicates that his narration from him is sahih, because he was only criticized for raising mawquf narrations to marfu status, and Ibn Uyayna mentioned that he distinguished the hadith of Abdullah from the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ."
