Abu Bakr came in to see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanting to speak with him while Ayesha was praying. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Hold to the comprehensive ones," or some similar phrase. When Ayesha finished her prayer, she asked him about that, and he said to her, "Say,'O Allah, I ask You for all good, both immediate and deferred, what I know of it and what I do not know. I seek refuge in You from all evil, both immediate and deferred, what I know of it and what I do not know. I ask You for Paradise and for whatever brings me near to it of word or deed, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and from whatever brings me near to it of word or deed. I ask You for the good that Your servant and messenger Muhammad ﷺ asked You for, and I seek refuge in You from what Your servant and messenger Muhammad ﷺ sought refuge with You from. And I ask You that whatever You have decreed for me, You make its outcome rightly guided.'"
Ahmad narrated it (25137-25138), and Hakim declared it sahih by this route (1/521-522), from the narration of Shuba, from Jabr bin Habib, from Umm Kulthum bint Abu Bakr, from Ayesha, and he related it as I have mentioned. Ibn Majah (3846) and Ahmad (25019) both narrated it from the hadith of Affan, from Hammad bin Salama, who said, Jabr bin Habib informed us, from Umm Kulthum bint Abu Bakr, from Ayesha, similarly. Its chain is sahih. This is how Shuba and Hammad bin Salama narrated it from Jabr bin Habib. Others narrated it from him in different ways, but the sahih version among them is the one I have mentioned, as Daraqutni stated in Ilal (14/245-246).Similar in meaning is what was reported from Abu Umama, who said, "The Messenger of Allah made a lengthy supplication, none of which we managed to memorize. We said, 'O Messenger of Allah, you made a lengthy supplication and we did not memorize any of it.' He said, 'Shall I not direct you to something that encompasses all of it? Say, O Allah, we ask You for the best of what Your Prophet Muhammad asked You for, and we seek refuge in You from the worst of what Your Prophet Muhammad sought refuge from. You are the one from whom help is sought, and upon You rests the conveying of the message, and there is no power and no strength except through Allah.'"Tirmidhi narrated it (3521) from Muhammad bin Hatim, who said, Ammar bin Muhammad, the nephew of Sufyan Thawri, told us, from Layth bin Abu Salim, from Abdul-Rahman bin Sabit, from Abu Umama, and he related it thus.Bukhari narrated it in Adab al-Mufrad (679), and Tabarani in Kabir (8/226), both by the route of Mutamir bin Sulayman, from Layth, from Thabit bin Ajlan, from Qasim Abu Abdul-Rahman, from Abu Umama, and he related it thus. Both chains hinge on Layth bin Abu Salim, whose memory became confused, causing disturbance in his narration, and this disturbance appears in the chain of this hadith as you can see. Moreover, Abdul-Rahman bin Sabit did not hear directly from Abu Umama, as Ibn Main stated.
