The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to supplicate, "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from being crushed by a falling structure, I seek refuge in You from falling from a height, I seek refuge in You from drowning, from burning, and from decrepit old age, I seek refuge in You from being confounded by Satan at the time of death, I seek refuge in You from dying while fleeing in Your path, and I seek refuge in You from dying of a venomous bite."Wazad added in another narration, "and from grief."
أن رسول ﷺ كان يدعو: اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الهدم، وأعوذ بك من التردي، وأعوذ بك من الغرق، والحرق، والهرم، وأعوذ بك أن يتخبطني الشيطان عند الموت، وأعوذ بك أن أموت في سبيلك مدبرا، وأعوذ بك أن أموت لديغا وزاد في رواية: والغم.
Abu Dawud narrated it (1552-1553), as did Nasai (5531-5532) and Ahmad (15523), all through different chains from Abdullah bin Saeed, from Sayfi the freed slave of Aflah the freed slave of Abu Ayub, from Abu Yusr, who related it. Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Sayfi, who is Ibn Ziyad Ansari, whose hadith is hasan.Some of them added to the chain "from his grandfather Abu Hind" between Abdullah bin Saeed and Sayfi. Hakim narrated it this way (1/531) and said, sahih chain. Dhahabi challenged him, saying, "Abu Dawud and Nasai narrated it through several chains, and none of them contain 'from his grandfather.' Based on this, it belongs to the category of additions found in otherwise connected chains, though Abu Hatim considers the addition more likely to be correct." Ilal (2085).Some narrators reported it as part of the musnad of Abu Aswad Sulami, as found in Nasai (5533), but this is a mistake, as Mizzi stated in Tuhfat Ashraf (8/307).
