Abu Yaala narrated it, as Diya transmitted it from him in al-Mukhtarah (1236), and this is his wording, and Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (391), though he did not give the full wording. Both came through the route of Yazid bin Ziyad, from Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla, from Ubayy bin Kaab, who said, and then he mentioned it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Yazid bin Ziyad bin Abu Jaad al-Kufi and his teacher Abdul-Malik bin Umayr bin Suwayd al-Lakhmi, for both of them made the hadith hasan. Ibn Hajar also graded it hasan in Amali Mutlaqa (185). However, Daraqutni preferred the narration of Muaz bin Jabal, perhaps because of the strength of the narrators in its chain, and that is the hadith that follows.Similar in meaning is what was reported from Muaz bin Jabal, that two men cursed each other in front of the Prophet ﷺ, and one of them became so intensely angry that I thought his nose was about to burst from the severity of his anger. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I know a word that, if he said it, the anger he feels would leave him." The man asked, "What is it, Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Let him say, 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Satan.'" Muaz then began urging him to say it, but he refused stubbornly, and his anger kept increasing.Abu Dawud (4780) narrated it, as did Tirmidhi (3452), Ahmad (22086), and Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (389, 390), all of them through the route of Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, from Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla, from Muaz bin Jabal, who mentioned it.Tirmidhi said, "This is a mursal hadith. Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla did not hear from Muaz bin Jabal. Muaz died during the caliphate of Umar bin Khattab, and when Umar bin Khattab was killed, Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla was a boy of six years old." End of quote.I say, Abdul-Rahman bin Abu Layla was born in the year 17 AH, and Muaz bin Jabal died in the plague of Amwas in the year 18 AH.
