The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you hear the barking of dogs and the braying of donkeys at night, seek refuge with Allah, for they see what you do not see."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا سمعتم نباح الكلب ونهيق الحمر بالليل فتعوذوا بالله فإنهن يرين ما لا ترون.
Abu Dawud (5103), Ahmad (14283), Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (1234), and Abu Yaala (2327) all narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (5517-5518) and Hakim (4/283-284) both graded it sahih, all of them through various routes from Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Harith (that is, Taymi) narrated to me, from Ata bin Yasar, from Jabir bin Abdullah, and he related it.Its chain is hasan on account of Muhammad bin Ishaq, for his hadith is hasan when he states clearly that he heard it directly, and he did state this clearly, as found in the versions of Abu Yaala and Ibn Hibban. Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith according to the criterion of Muslim."
