The Prophet ﷺ instructed Fatimah and Ali to recite, when they took to their beds, words of glorification, praise, and magnification of Allah. Ata was not certain which of these was to be said thirty-four times to complete the hundred.Ali said, "I have never abandoned them since."Ibn Kawwa asked him, "Not even on the night of Siffin?"Ali replied, "Not even on the night of Siffin."
عن النبي ﷺ: أنه أمر فاطمة وعليا إذا أخذا مضاجعهما في التسبيح، والتحميد، والتكبير- لا يدري عطاء أيها أربع وثلاثون تمام المائة- قال: فقال علي: فما تركتهن بعد. قال: فقال له ابن الكواء: ولا ليلة صفين؟ قال علي: ولا ليلة صفين
Ahmad (6554) narrated it from Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shubah narrated to us, from Ata bin Saaib, from his father, from Abdullah bin Amr, and he mentioned it.Its chain is sahih. Ata bin Saaib is trustworthy, and the leading scholars affirmed his reliability, except that he became confused in his later years, but Shubah's narration from him predates that confusion.Haythami said in al-Majma (10/122), "Ahmad narrated it, and its men are trustworthy, because Shubah heard from Ata bin Saaib before he became confused."
