I was a young boy under the care of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and my hand used to roam about in the dish. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Young man, mention the name of Allah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you."That has been my way of eating ever since.
كنت غلاما في حجر رسول الله ﷺ وكانت يدي تطيش في الصحفة، فقال لي رسول الله ﷺ: يا غلام سم الله، وكل بيمينك، وكل مما يليك. فما زالت تلك طعمتي بعد.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Foods (5376), and Muslim in the Book of Drinks (2022:108), both of them via Sufyan bin Uyayna, from Walid bin Kathir, from Wahb bin Kaysan, that he heard Umar bin Abu Salama say what he then mentioned.
