Tabarani narrated it in Duaa (874) via Qays bin Rabi, from Aghar bin Sabbah, from Khalifa bin Husayn, from Ali , and he mentioned it. In the chain is Qays bin Rabi Asadi, Abu Muhammad Kufi, who is disputed. It has a corroborating mursal narration in Malik (4221) from Talha bin Ubaydullah bin Kurayz, and another connected one in Tirmidhi (3585) from the hadith of Abdullah bin Amr bin As, though its chain contains weakness. This is what the early scholars acted upon, as is explained in detail in the book on Hajj.As for what is reported from Ali bin Abu Talib, that he said, "The most that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated with on the evening of Arafah at the standing place was, 'O Allah, to You belongs praise as You say, and better than what we say. O Allah, to You belongs my prayer, my rites, my life and my death, and to You is my return, and to You, my Lord, belongs my inheritance. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, the whisperings of the chest, and the scattering of affairs. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil that the wind brings.'" Its chain is daif.Tirmidhi (3521) and Ibn Khuzayma (2841) both narrated it through routes from Qays bin Rabi, from Aghar bin Sabbah, from Khalifa bin Husayn, from Ali bin Abu Talib, and he mentioned it. Its chain is daif due to the weakness of Qays bin Rabi. Tirmidhi said, "This hadith is unusual from this angle, and its chain is not strong."Ibn Khuzayma withheld judgment on its soundness, for he titled this hadith with the heading, "A chapter on the mention of supplication at the standing place on the evening of Arafah, if the report is established. I do not think there is any ruling in the report, it is merely a supplication. So we have included this report even though it is not established in terms of transmission, since this supplication is permissible to make at the standing place or elsewhere."
