The Prophet ﷺ visited an Arabi to check on him during his illness. Whenever the Prophet ﷺ visited a sick person, he would say to him, "No harm. It is a purification, Allah willing."The man said, "A purification? Not at all. Rather, it is a fever that boils—or rages—upon an old man, sending him off to the grave."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Then so be it."
أن النبي ﷺ دخل على أعرابي يعوده قال: وكان النبي ﷺ إذا دخل على مريض يعوده فقال له: لا بأس طهور إن شاء الله قال: قلت: طهور؟ كلا بل هي حمى تفور- أو تثور- على شيخ كبير، تزيره القبور. فقال النبي ﷺ: فنعم إذا.
Bukhari related it in the Book of the Sick (5656) from Mualla bin Assad, who said, Abdul-Aziz bin Mukhtar related to us, who said, Khalid related to us, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.His saying, "makes him visit," comes from azarahu, meaning he made him carry out the visit without his own choice in the matter.
