Anas reported that the Prophet ﷺ invoked Allah against those who had killed his companions at the Well of Maunah for thirty mornings, cursing the tribes of Ril, Dhakwan, Lihyan, and Usayyah, saying, "Usayyah disobeyed Allah and His Messenger."Anas said, "Allah revealed to His Prophet concerning those who were killed at the Well of Maunah a passage of Quran that we used to recite until it was later abrogated. It read, 'Inform our people that we have met our Lord, and He is pleased with us, and we are pleased with Him.'"
دعا النبي ﷺ على الذين قتلوا- يعني أصحابه- ببئر معونة ثلاثين صباحا، حين يدعو على رغل ولحيان: وعصية عصت الله ورسوله قال أنس: فأنزل الله تعالى لنبيه في الذين قتلوا- أصحاب بئر معونة- قرآنا قرأناه حتى نسخ بعد: بلغوا قومنا فقد لقينا ربنا، فرضي عنا، ورضينا عنه.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4095), and Muslim in the Book of Mosques (677), both through Malik, from Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abu Talha, from Anas bin Malik, who narrated it. The wording is Bukhari's, and Muslim added "and Zakwan" after "Ril." It is also found in the Muwatta as related by Shaybani (909).
