Aisha said, "Two old women from among the elderly Jewish women of Madinah came to visit me. They said to me, 'The people of the graves are tormented in their graves.' I did not believe them and was unwilling to accept what they said, so they left.Then the Prophet ﷺ came in to see me, and I said to him, 'Messenger of Allah, two old women from among the elderly women of Madinah came in to see me, and they claimed that the people of the graves are tormented in their graves.'He replied, 'They spoke the truth. They are tormented with a punishment that all the animals can hear.'"She said, "After that, I never saw him perform a prayer without seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave."
دخلت علي عجوزان من عجز يهود المدينة، فقالتا لي: إن أهل القبور يعذبون في قبورهم، فكذبتهما، ولم أنعم أن أصدقهما فخرجتا. ودخل علي النبي ﷺ فقلت له: يا رسول الله إن عجوزين من عجز المدينة دخلتا علي، فزعمتا أن أهل القبور يعذبون في قبورهم فقال: صدقتا، إنهم يعذبون عذابا تسمعه البهائم كلها. قالت: فما رأيت بعد في صلاة إلا تعوذ من عذاب القبر.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Supplications (6366), and Muslim in the Book of Mosques (125/586), both through the route of Jareer, from Mansur, from Abu Waail, from Masruq, from Ayesha, and I have already mentioned it.Something similar has also been narrated from her, that she said, "A Jewish woman visited me and said, 'The punishment of the grave comes from urine.' I said, 'You are lying.' She said, 'Indeed, it eats away at cloth and skin because of it.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out for prayer while our voices were raised, and he said, 'What is this?' So I told him what she had said, and he said, 'She has spoken the truth.'" She said, "From that day on, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ never prayed without saying at the end of the prayer, 'O Allah, Lord of Jibreel, Mikail, and Israfeel, protect me from the heat of the Fire and from the punishment of the grave.'"Nasai related it (1345, 5519), and Ahmad (24324), both through the route of Jasrah, from Ayesha, and I have already mentioned it. Jasrah is the daughter of Dajajah. No one has confirmed her reliability except Ibn Hibban and Ajli. Bukhari said, "She has strange reports."
