The Prophet ﷺ said, "When you see Allah granting a servant the worldly things he loves despite his disobedience, it is only a gradual lure toward destruction."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: إذا رأيت الله يعطي العبد من الدنيا على معاصيه ما يحب، فإنما هو استدراج.
Imam Ahmad (17311) narrated it from Yahya bin Ghaylan, who said, Rushdin, meaning Ibn Saad, Abu Hajjaj Mahri, narrated to us from Harmala bin Imran Tujibi, from Uqba bin Muslim, from Uqba bin Amir, and he mentioned it.Rushdin bin Saad is daif according to the authorities of hadith, but he has been corroborated. Dulabi narrated it in al-Kuna (1/111), Tabarani in al-Awsat (9268), and Bayhaqi in al-Qada wal-Qadar (2/566) and in Shuab al-Iman (4540), all of them through other chains from Harmala bin Imran Tujibi, with the same wording. For this reason, Hafiz Iraqi graded it hasan in Takhrij al-Ihya (4/115), after attributing it to Ahmad, Tabarani, and Bayhaqi in al-Shuab.The hadith also has another chain, as Ibn Jareer Tabari said in his Tafsir, "Muhammad bin Harb narrated this hadith from Ibn Lahia, from Uqba bin Muslim, with the same account." There is well-known discussion about Ibn Lahia, but this corroboration confirms that he did not err in this hadith, but rather preserved it and conveyed it just as he had heard it.
