Abu Hurairah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Three men from among those who came before you set out seeking provision for their families. Rain caught them, so they took shelter in a mountain, and a boulder fell upon them, sealing them inside.They said to one another, 'Our tracks are gone, the rock has fallen, and no one knows your location except Allah. Call upon Allah by the most sincere of your deeds.'One of them said, 'O Allah, You know that there was a woman I admired. I sought her, but she refused me. So I offered her a sum of money, and when she submitted herself to me, I left her. If You know that I did that hoping for Your mercy and fearing Your punishment, then relieve us.' One third of the mountain shifted away.The second said, 'O Allah, You know that I had two elderly parents. I used to milk for them into their cup, and when I came to them and found them asleep, I would stand holding the cup until they awoke, so that when they awoke, they would drink. If You know that I did that hoping for Your mercy and fearing Your punishment, then relieve us.' One third of the rock shifted away.The third said, 'O Allah, You know that I once hired a laborer for a day, and he worked for me half the day. I gave him his wage, but he was displeased with it and refused to take it. So I invested it for him until it grew into a great fortune. Then he came demanding his wage, and I said, Take all of this. Had I wished, I would have given him nothing but his wage. If You know that I did that hoping for Your mercy and fearing Your punishment, then relieve us.'The rock shifted away, and they walked out together."

عن أبي هريرة قال

قال رسول الله ﷺ: خرج ثلاثة فيمن كان قبلكم يرتادون لأهليهم، فأصابتهم السماء فلجؤوا إلى جبل، فوقع عليهم صخرة، فقال بعضهم لبعض: عفا الأثر، ووقع الحجر، ولا يعلم مكانكم إلا الله، ادعوا الله بأوثق أعمالكم. فقال أحدهم: اللهم إن كنت تعلم أنه كانت امرأة تعجبني، فطلبتها فأبت علي، فجعلت لها جعلا، فلما قربت نفسها، تركتها، فإن كنت تعلم أني إنما فعلت ذلك رجاء رحمتك وخشية عذابك، فافرج عنا، غزال ثلث الجبل. فقال الآخر: اللهم إن كنت تعلم أنه كان لي والدان، وكنت أحلب لهما في إنائهما، فإذا أتيتهما، وهما نائمان، قمت قائما حتى يستيقظا فإذا استيقظا، شربا، فإن كنت تعلم أني فعلت ذلك رجاء رحمتك وخشية عذابك، فافرج عنا قال: فزال ثلث الحجر. فقال الثالث: اللهم إن كنت تعلم أني استأجرت أجيرا يوما، فعمل لي نصف النهار، فأعطيته أجره فتسخطه ولم يأخذه، فوفرتها عليه حتى صار من كل المال، ثم جاء يطلب أجره، فقلت: خذ هذا كله، ولو شئت لم أعطه إلا أجره، فإن كنت تعلم أني فعلت ذلك رجاء رحمتك وخشية عذابك، فافرج عنا قال: فزال الحجر، وخرجوا يتماشون.
