The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no man who supplicates Allah with a prayer except that it is answered for him. Either it is hastened for him in this world, or it is stored up for him in the hereafter, or some of his sins are forgiven in proportion to what he prayed for, so long as he does not pray for something sinful or for the severing of family ties, or become impatient."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, how does he become impatient?"He replied, "He says, 'I called upon my Lord but He did not answer me.'"
Tirmidhi (3/3406) narrated it from Yahya bin Musa, who said, Abu Muawiya told us, Layth, that is Ibn Abu Salim, told us, from Ziyad, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. He said, This is a gharib hadith from this angle.I say, it is as he said, for Layth bin Abu Salim is daif, and his shaykh Ziyad was given an entry by Mizzi in Tahzib Kamal (62/3), where he said, Ziyad, without further attribution, from Abu Hurairah... and he mentioned this hadith for him, then said, it is possible that he is Tai. Ziyad Tai is majhul (unknown), and narrated from Abu Hurairah in mursal form, as stated in Taqrib. Dhahabi said in Mizan, He is not known. However, Bukhari narrated it in Adab al-Mufrad (711), Ahmad (9785), and Hakim (1/497), all of them by way of Ubaydullah bin Abdul-Rahman bin Mawhab, from his uncle Ubaydullah, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "There is no believer who turns his face to Allah, asking Him for something, except that He gives it to him, either hastening it for him in this world, or storing it up for him in the hereafter, so long as he does not grow impatient." It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is growing impatient?" He said, "That he says, 'I supplicated and supplicated, and I do not see that I am being answered.'"The wording is Bukhari's, while the accounts of Ahmad and Hakim are abridged. Hakim said, "Its isnad is sahih."I say, in its isnad is Ubaydullah bin Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Mawhab, who is hasan al-hadith, but his uncle, who is Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Mawhab, his status is not known. Yet by combining the two isnads together, the hadith becomes hasan.
