He heard Abu Bakr say, when the Prophet ﷺ had passed away, "The Messenger of Allah stood in this very place where I now stand last year." Then Abu Bakr wept and said, "Hold fast to truthfulness, for it is paired with righteousness, and both are in Paradise. Beware of lying, for it is paired with wickedness, and both are in the Fire. Ask Allah for well-being, for after certainty no one has been given anything better than well-being." The hadith continues.
أنه سمع أبا بكر حين قبض النبي ﷺ يقول: قام رسول الله في مقامي هذا عام الأول، ثم بكى أبو بكر ثم قال: عليكم بالصدق؛ فإنه مع البر وهما في الجنة، وإياكم والكذب؛ فإنه مع الفجور وهما في النار، وسلوا الله المعافاة فإنه لم يؤت أحد بعد اليقين خيرا من المعافاة. الحديث.
Ibn Majah (3849), Ahmad (5, 17), Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (724), and Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (879-883) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (952) and Hakim (1/529) graded it sahih, all of them through routes going back to Awsat Bajali, who mentioned it. Its chain is sahih, and Hakim graded it sahih.Ahmad (6) narrated it through the route of Muaz bin Rifa bin Rafi Ansari, from his father, Rifa bin Rafi, who said, I heard Abu Bakr Siddiq say, on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say. Abu Bakr wept when he mentioned the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then he composed himself, and said, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, in this same heat of the previous year, "Ask Allah for pardon and well being, and for certainty in the Hereafter and in this world."
