Imam Ahmad (7967), Bazzar in Kashf Astar (63), and Hakim (1/3-4) all narrated it through the route of Shubah, from Yahya bin Abu Salim, "I heard Amr bin Maymun," from Abu Hurairah, and he related the hadith. Its isnad is hasan because of the discussion surrounding Yahya bin Abu Salim. Abu Balaj is disputed, but his hadith is hasan.Hakim said, "This hadith was not extracted in the Sahihayn, though both of them relied on Amr bin Maymun from Abu Hurairah. Muslim relied on Abu Balaj. This is a sahih hadith with no known defect." End of quote.Dhahabi followed up on this, saying, "Abu Balaj cannot be relied upon, though he has been deemed trustworthy. Bukhari said, 'There is something questionable about him.'"I say, this is what he said, but Ibn Main, Ibn Saad, Nasai, Ajli, and others deemed him trustworthy, so he does not fall below the rank of "truthful."
