The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Day of Arafah, the Day of Sacrifice, and the days of Tashriq are our festival, the festival of the people of Islam, and they are days of eating and drinking."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: يوم عرفة، ويوم النحر، وأيام التشريق عيدنا أهل الإسلام، وهي أيام أكل وشرب.
It was narrated by Abu Dawud (2419), Tirmidhi (772), Nasai (3004), Ahmad (17379), and Tahawi in his commentary (318). Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (2100), as did Ibn Hibban (3603) and Hakim (1/434), all of them through routes from Musa bin Ali, from his father, who said, I heard Uqba bin Amir say, then he mentioned the hadith. Tirmidhi said, Hasan sahih. Hakim said, Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim.As for his statement, "the day of Arafah," it is one of the days of eating and drinking with respect to the pilgrim, but whoever is not performing the pilgrimage may fast it in order to attain the merit of fasting it.
