Tirmidhi (747), Ibn Majah (1740), and Ahmad (8361) all narrated it from the hadith of Muhammad bin Rifa, from Suhayl bin Abu Salih, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.The other two added, "So Allah forgives every Muslim, or every believer, except those who have severed relations with one another, for He says, 'Leave the two of them.'"This is the wording of the Musnad, while the wording of Ibn Majah is, "Leave the two of them until they reconcile."Muhammad bin Rifa is the son of Thalaba al-Qurazi. Hafiz said of him, "Acceptable." And he is as he said, for he was corroborated, except that he added the mention of fasting. Perhaps for that reason Tirmidhi found it unusual, saying, "Hasan and rare." But he was not mistaken in this, given the existence of sahih corroborating narrations as mentioned previously. Perhaps someone else abridged it, or the mention of fasting did not reach that other narrator through a sahih chain of transmission.
