I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "No one plots against the people of Madinah without dissolving away as salt dissolves in water."
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: لا يكيد أهل المدينة أحد إلا انماع كما ينماع الملح في الماء.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on the merits of Madinah (1877) from Husayn bin Hurayth, "Fadl told us, from Juayd, from Ayesha (that is, the daughter of Saad), who said, I heard Saad say," then he related it.His saying "melted away" comes from the root maaa, yamiu, mayan, and its form inmaaa means "when it dissolved and flowed."Muslim also narrated it (1387:494) from Qutayba bin Saeed, "Hatim (meaning Ibn Ismail) told us, from Umar bin Nabih, Dinar the tanner told me, he said, I heard Saad bin Abu Waqqas say, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Whoever intends harm against the people of Madinah, Allah will melt him away just as salt melts in water.'"Muslim also narrated it (1363:460) through another route from Amir bin Saad bin Abu Waqqas, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No one intends harm against the people of Madinah except that Allah melts him away in the Fire, as lead melts, or as salt melts in water."
