Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

Ali said, "Whoever claims that we possess anything we recite besides the Book of Allah and this document," referring to a document hanging from the sheath of his sword, "has lied. In it are rulings concerning the ages of camels used for blood-money and matters relating to wounds. It also contains the saying of the Prophet ﷺ, 'Madinah is sacred territory between the mountains of Ayr and Thawr. Whoever introduces an innovation in it or shelters one who does so, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Allah will accept from him neither obligatory nor voluntary acts on the Day of Resurrection. The protection granted by the Muslims is one, even the lowliest of them may extend it. Whoever claims descent from someone other than his father or affiliates himself with people other than his patrons, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people. Allah will accept from him neither obligatory nor voluntary acts on the Day of Resurrection.'"
