Tirmidhi (2644) narrated it from Hasan bin Arafah, who said, Ismail bin Ayyash narrated to us, from Yahya bin Abu Amr Shaybani, from Abdullah bin Daylami, who said, I heard Abdullah bin Amr, and he mentioned the hadith. This chain is hasan, because Ismail bin Ayyash is truthful in his narrations from the people of his own region, and this is one of them. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan hadith."Imam Ahmad also narrated it (6644), and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (6169), as did Hakim (1/30), and Bayhaqi in Qadaa wal-Qadar (1/257), all of them through another route from Uzai, who said, Rabia bin Yazid narrated to me, from Abdullah Daylami, and he mentioned several hadiths, this one among them. Hakim said, "This is a sahih hadith, which the leading scholars have transmitted among themselves, and the two of them [Bukhari and Muslim] have relied on all of its narrators, yet they did not include it in their two books, and I do not know of any defect in it."Imam Ahmad also narrated it (6854), and Bazzar in Kashf Astar (2145), through two different chains from Abdullah bin Amr, and perhaps it is to this that Haythami refers in Majma (7/193-194) when he says, "Ahmad narrated it through two chains, as did Bazzar and Tabarani, and the men of one of Ahmad's two chains are trustworthy." I say, except that the hadith does not meet his [Bukhari's or Muslim's] standard.
