When his grandfather Qays embraced Islam, the Prophet ﷺ instructed him to bathe with water and lote-tree leaves. The Prophet ﷺ said of Qays, "This is the chief of the desert dwellers."
أن جده قيسا لما أسلم، أمره النبي ﷺ أن يغتسل بماء وسدر، وقال النبي ﷺ لقيس: هذا سيد أهل الوبر.
Ajli narrated it in Thiqat (1397) from Abu Dawud Hafari (who is Umar bin Saad), from Sufyan (who is Thawri), from Aghar (who is Ibn Sabbah), from Khalifa bin Husayn, and he mentioned it. Its chain of transmission is sahih.Abu Dawud (355), Tirmidhi (605), and Nasai (188) all narrated it, all of them through the route of Thawri with this chain of transmission, except that they did not mention, "This is the master of the people of the desert."
