Nafi reported,

Ibn Umar said that some men from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to have dreams during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and would relate them to him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say about them whatever Allah willed. I was a young boy at the time, unmarried, and the mosque was my home.I said to myself, "If there were any good in you, you would have visions like these men do."So one night, as I lay down, I said, "O Allah, if You know any good in me, then show me a vision."While I was in that state, two angels came to me, each holding an iron mace, and they began leading me toward Hellfire. I was between them, praying to Allah, "O Allah, I seek refuge with You from Hellfire."Then it appeared to me that another angel met me, also holding an iron mace, and he said, "You shall not be alarmed. What an excellent man you are, if only you would pray more often."They took me along until they stopped at the edge of Hell, and there it was, coiled like the coiling of a well, with horns like the horns of a well. Between every two horns stood an angel holding an iron mace. I saw in it men suspended by chains, their heads downward, and I recognized among them some men from Quraysh. Then they turned me away to the right.I related this to Hafsah, and she related it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, Abdullah is a righteous man."Nafi said, "After that, he never ceased to pray abundantly."

أن ابن عمر قال: إن رجالا من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ كانوا يرون الرؤيا على عهد رسول الله ﷺ، فيقصونها على رسول الله ﷺ، فيقول فيها رسول الله ﷺ ماشاء الله، وأنا غلام حديث السن، وبيتي المسجد قبل أن أنكح، فقلت في نفسي: لو كان فيك خير لرأيت مثل ما يرى هؤلاء، فلما اضطجعت ليلة قلت: اللهم إن كنت تعلم في خيرا فأرني رؤيا، فبينما أنا كذلك إذ جاءني ملكان، في يد كل واحد منهما مقمعة من حديد يقبلا بي إلى جهنم، وأنا بينهما أدعو الله: اللهم أعوذ بك من جهنم، ثم أراني لقيني ملك في يده مقمعة من حديد فقال: لن تراع، نعم الرجل أنت لو تكثر الصلاة، فانطلقوا بي حتى وقفوا على شفير جهنم، فإذا هي مطوية كطي البئر، له قرون كقرن البئر، بين كل قرنين ملك بيده مقمعة من حديد، وأرى فيها رجالا معلقين بالسلاسل، رؤوسهم أسفلهم، عرفت فيها رجالا من قريش، فانصرفوا بي عن ذات اليمين، فقصصتها على حفصة، فقصتها على رسول الله ﷺ، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: إن عبد الله رجل صالح. فقال نافع: لم يزل بعد ذلك يكثر الصلاة.
