The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What an excellent man Khuraym al-Asadi is, were it not for the length of his hair and the trailing of his lower garment."This reached Khuraym, so he took a knife and cut his hair down to the middle of his ears, and raised his garment to the middle of his shins.The narrator said, "My father told me, 'I later went in to see Muawiya, and there with him was an old man whose hair was above his ears and whose cloak reached to his shins. I asked about him, and they said, "This is Khuraym al-Asadi."'"The hadith continues.
قال رسول الله ﷺ: نعم الرجل خريم الأسدي لولا طول جمته وإسبال إزاره. فبلغ ذلك خريما، فجعل يأخذ شفرة، فيقطع بها شعره إلى أنصاف أذنيه، ورفع إزاره إلى أنصاف ساقيه. قال-يعني الراوي-: فأخبرني أبي قال: دخلت بعد ذلك على معاوية، فإذا عنده شيخ جمته فوق أذنيه، ورداؤه إلى ساقيه، فسألت عنه فقالوا: هذا خريم الأسدي. الحديث.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4089) and Ahmad (17622), both from the hadith of Abdul-Malik bin Amr Abu Amir, who said, Hisham bin Saad narrated to us, who said, Qays bin Bishr Taghlabi narrated to us, who said, my father told me, and he was a companion of Abu Darda, Abu Darda said, and then he related it in a long hadith mentioned in the Book of Clothing. Its chain is hasan because of Bishr Taghlabi, the father of Qays, who is Bishr bin Qays Taghlabi, and he is truthful (saduq) as the Hafiz said, and nothing in his biography in Tahdhib shows any criticism of him. It is also hasan because of his son Qays, who is among the narrators found in the Sahih, and Abu Hatim said of him, "I see no problem with his hadith."
