Ali bin Abu Talib reported,

Ali proposed marriage to the Prophet's ﷺ daughter Fatimah. Ali sold a coat of armor he owned along with some of his belongings, and the proceeds came to four hundred and eighty dirhams. The Prophet ﷺ instructed him to spend two thirds of it on perfume and one third on clothing. Then the Prophet ﷺ spat into a jar of water and ordered them to wash themselves with it.He also instructed Fatimah not to begin nursing any of her children before he came. She did, however, nurse Husayn before he arrived. As for Hasan, the Prophet ﷺ placed something into his mouth, though we do not know what it was, and Hasan became the more knowledgeable of the two men.
