Suraqa bin Jashum came and said, "Messenger of Allah, explain our religion to us as though we were just created today. What is action for? Is it for something the pens have already dried upon and the decrees have already run their course concerning, or is it for something yet to come?"He replied, "No, it is for something the pens have already dried upon and the decrees have already run their course concerning."Suraqa asked, "Then what is the point of action?"Zuhayr said, "Abu Zubayr then said something I did not understand, so I asked what he had said." He replied, "Act, for everyone is enabled toward what he was created for."
جاء سراقة بن مالك بن جعشم، قال: يا رسول الله، بين لنا ديننا كأنا خلقنا الآن، فيما العمل اليوم؟ أفيما جفت به الأقلام، وجرت به المقادير، أم فيما نستقبل؟ قال: لا، بل فيما جفت به الأقلام، وجرت به المقادير. قال: ففيم العمل؟ - قال زهير: ثم تكلم أبو الزبير بشيء لم أفهمه، فسألت ما قال؟ فقال: اعملوا فكل ميسر.
Muslim narrated it in the chapter on Qadar (2648) through several routes from Zuhayr bin Khaythama, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, as mentioned. In another version from him, "Every worker is enabled to do his work."As for what Ibn Majah narrated (91) from Hisham bin Ammar, who said, Ataa bin Muslim Khaffaf narrated to us, who said, Amash narrated to us, from Mujahid, from Suraqa bin Jusham, who said, I said, "Messenger of Allah, is our fate already fixed by what the pen has recorded and what the decrees have set in motion, or is it something still to come?" He said, "Rather, it is what the pen has recorded and what the decrees have set in motion, and everyone is enabled toward what he was created for."This chain contains Ataa bin Muslim Khaffaf, whom more than one scholar has declared daif, and Mujahid did not hear from Suraqa, as Busiri stated in Zawaid.
