When the illness of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ grew severe, I came down to Madinah along with the people. I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he had fallen silent and was no longer speaking. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began placing his hands upon me and lifting them, and I understood that he was praying for me.
لما ثقل رسول الله ﷺ هبطت وهبط الناس المدينة، فدخلت على رسول الله ﷺ وقد صمت فلم يتكلم، فجعل رسول الله ﷺ يضع يديه علي ويرفعهما فأعرف أنه يدعو لي.
Tirmidhi (3817) and Ahmad (21755) both narrated it through the route of Muhammad bin Ishaq, who said, Saeed bin Ubayd bin Sabbaq narrated to me, from Muhammad bin Usama bin Zayd, from his father Usama bin Zayd, who mentioned it. Its isnad is hasan because of Muhammad bin Ishaq. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith." And it is as he said, for Muhammad bin Ishaq's hadith is hasan.Among the reports about Usama bin Zayd is what Bukhari narrated in the Book of Tribulations (4110), from Ali bin Abdullah, who said, Sufyan narrated to us, who said, Amr said, Muhammad bin Ali told me that Harmalah, the freed slave of Usama, informed him, Amr said, I saw Harmalah myself, and he said, Usama sent me to Ali and said, "He will now ask you, 'What did your companion leave behind?' So tell him he says to you, 'If you were in the jaws of a lion, I would love to be with you there, but this is a matter I do not see fit to take part in.' He gave me nothing, so I went to Hasan, Husayn, and Ibn Jafar, and they loaded my mount for me."
