Four people compiled the Quran during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, all of them from the Ansar: Muaz bin Jabal, Ubayy bin Kaab, Zayd bin Thabit, and Abu Zayd.Qatada said, "I asked Anas, 'Who is Abu Zayd?'He replied, 'One of my paternal uncles.'"
جمع القرآن على عهد رسول الله ﷺ أربعة كلهم من الأنصار: معاذ بن جبل، وأبي بن كعب، وزيد بن ثابت، وأبو زيد. قال قتادة: قلت لأنس: من أبو زيد؟ قال: أحد عمومتي.
Bukhari narrated it in the Virtues of the Ansar (3810), and Muslim narrated it in the Virtues of the Companions (2465 - 119), both of them through Shubah, from Qatada, who said, "I heard Anas say," and then he mentioned it. The wording given is Muslim's, and Bukhari's wording is similar. In one version it reads, "I said to Anas bin Malik, 'Who memorized the entire Quran during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He said, 'Four men, all of them from the Ansar...'" and then he mentioned it.Bukhari narrated it in the Virtues of the Quran (5003), and Muslim narrated it in the Virtues of the Companions (2465 - 120), both of them through Hammam bin Yahya, who said, "Qatada narrated to us, saying, 'I asked Anas bin Malik,'" and then he mentioned it.Note, the name "Qatada" is missing from the chain of transmission in the printed edition of Sahih Muslim, but it is confirmed in Tuhfat Ashraf (1401).
