Usama bin Zayd reported,
Jafar, Ali, and Zayd bin Haritha gathered together.Jafar said, "I am the most beloved of you to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Ali said, "I am the most beloved of you to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Zayd said, "I am the most beloved of you to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."They said, "Let us go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him."Usama bin Zayd reported, "They came seeking permission to enter, and he said to me, 'Go out and see who these people are.'"I said, "It is Jafar, Ali, and Zayd," not saying, "my father."He said, "Let them in."They entered and asked, "Who is the most beloved to you?"He said, "Fatimah."They said, "We are asking you about the men."He said, "As for you, Jafar, your features resemble mine and my features resemble yours, and you are from me and from my tree. As for you, Ali, you are my son-in-law and the father of my children, and I am from you and you are from me. As for you, Zayd, you are my freedman, from me and to me, and the most beloved of the group to me."

اجتمع جعفر وعلي وزيد بن حارثة، فقال جعفر: أنا أحبكم إلى رسول الله ﷺ، وقال علي: أنا أحبكم إلى رسول الله ﷺ، وقال زيد: أنا أحبكم إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقالوا: انطلقوا بنا إلى رسول الله ﷺ حتى نسأله، فقال أسامة بن زيد: فجاؤوا يستأذنونه فقال: اخرج فانظر من هؤلاء؟ فقلت هذا جعفر وعلي وزيد- ما أقول: أبي- قال: ائذن لهم. ودخلوا فقالوا: من أحب إليك؟ قال: فاطمة. قالوا: نسألك عن الرجال، قال: أما أنت يا جعفر فأشبه خلقك خلقي، وأشبه خلقي خلقك، وأنت مني وشجرتي، وأما أنت يا علي فختني وأبو ولدي، وأنا منك وأنت مني، وأما أنت يا زيد فمولاي ومني وإلي وأحب القوم إلي.
Narrated by Ahmad (21777), Nasai in Khasais Ali (138), and Hakim (3/217), all through the route of Muhammad bin Salama, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Yazid bin Abdullah bin Qusayt, from Muhammad bin Usama, from his father, who said, then he mentioned it.Muhammad bin Ishaq is a mudallis, and he narrated using "an" without stating explicitly, and I did not find him stating explicitly that he heard it directly. However, the hadith has been narrated through another route, reported by Tirmidhi (3819) and Hakim (3/596), both through the route of Abu Awana, who said, Umar bin Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman narrated to us, from his father, who said, Usama bin Zayd informed me, saying, "I was sitting when Ali and Abbas came seeking permission to enter. They said, 'Usama, seek permission for us to see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' So I said, 'Messenger of Allah, Ali and Abbas are seeking permission to enter.' He said, 'Do you know what has brought them?' I said, 'No.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'But I know, let them in.' So they entered and said, 'Messenger of Allah, we have come to ask you, which of your household is most beloved to you?' He said, 'Fatimah, daughter of Muhammad.' They said, 'We did not come to ask you about your household.' He said, 'The most beloved of my household to me is the one whom Allah has favored and I have favored, Usama bin Zayd.' They said, 'Then who?' He said, 'Then Ali bin Abu Talib.' Abbas said, 'Messenger of Allah, you have placed your uncle last among them?' He said, 'Because Ali preceded you in migration.'"As for Umar bin Abu Salama, Tirmidhi said that Shuba used to weaken him, but his weakening is not severe, for Ibn Main said, "There is no harm in him," Bukhari said, "Truthful, except that some of his narrations conflict," and Ibn Adi said, "His hadith is hasan, there is no harm in him." With this corroboration, the hadith rises to the level of hasan, except that some of its wording contains a degree of strangeness. Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan hadith." His statement, "the father of my two children," means the father of Hasan and Husayn
