Miqdam bin Mad Yakrib, Amr bin Aswad, and a man from Banu Asad among the people of Qinnasrin came as a delegation to Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan.Muawiya said to Miqdam, "Have you heard that Hasan bin Ali has passed away?"Miqdam responded with words of condolence.A man said to him, "Do you consider this a calamity?"He replied, "Why should I not consider it a calamity, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed him on his lap and said, 'This one is from me, and Husayn is from Ali'?"
وفد المقدام بن معد يكرب وعمرو بن الأسود ورجل من بني أسد من أهل قنسرين إلى معاوية ابن أبي سفيان، فقال معاوية للمقدام: أعلمت أن الحسن بن علي توفي؟ فرجع المقدام، فقال له رجل: أتراها مصيبة؟ قال له: ولم لا أراها مصيبة وقد وضعه رسول الله ﷺ في حجره فقال: هذا مني وحسين من علي.
Reported by Abu Dawud (4131), Ahmad (17189), and Tabarani in al-Kabir (20/269), all through routes from Baqiya bin Walid, who said, "Buhayr bin Saad narrated to us, from Khalid bin Madan," who said, and then he mentioned it. Its chain is hasan because of Baqiya bin Walid, whose use of ambiguous transmission phrasing (anana) is accepted unconditionally when he narrates from Buhayr bin Saad, as Ibn Abdul-Hadi stated in his commentary on Ilal Ibn Abu Hatim. Here he has narrated from Buhayr bin Saad explicitly. Dhahabi strengthened this chain in al-Siyar (3/258).As for his statement in the hadith, "This one is from me," meaning Hasan bin Ali, this falls under the category of showing affection, because Hasan was older than Husayn, and because he also said of him, "Allah will bring reconciliation between two great factions through him." So his statement "This one is from me" carries an added distinction.It is reported from Anas bin Malik, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which member of your household is dearest to you?" He said, "Hasan and Husayn." And he used to say to Fatimah, "Bring my two sons to me," then he would smell them and hold them close to him.Reported by Tirmidhi (3772) and Abu Yaala (4294), both from Abu Saeed Ashaj, who said, "Uqba bin Khalid narrated to us," who said, "Yusuf bin Ibrahim Tamimi narrated to me that he heard Anas bin Malik say," and then he mentioned it. Tirmidhi said, "This is a gharib hadith from this route, from the hadith of Anas." And it is as he said, for Yusuf bin Ibrahim Tamimi is considered daif by the majority of scholars.
