I heard Ayesha being asked, "Whom would the Messenger of Allah ﷺ have appointed as his successor, had he appointed anyone?"She replied, "Abu Bakr."She was then asked, "And after Abu Bakr?"She said, "Umar."She was then asked, "And after Umar?"She said, "Abu Ubayda bin al-Jarrah," and she stopped at that.
سمعت عائشة: وسئلت: من كان رسول الله ﷺ مستخلفا لو استخلفه؟ قالت: ابو بكر، فقيل لها ثم من بعد ابي بكر؟ قالت: عمر، ثم قيل لها: من بعد عمر؟ قالت: ابو عبيدة بن الجراح ثم انتهت الي هذا.
